These are working documents, not template files to download and wrestle with in Word: the invoice you see on each page is the invoice that prints, and the math is done for you. Enter quantities and rates, set your tax percentage, and the subtotal, tax, and total stay correct automatically. Every text field โ€” your business name, the bill-to block, line descriptions, notes โ€” is editable in place.

Invoice vs. receipt: an invoice requests payment before it's made; a receipt confirms payment after. Send an invoice to bill a client, hand over a receipt once they've paid.

How to make an invoice or receipt

Start with the template that matches your situation โ€” a standard, freelance, contractor, service, or commercial invoice to request payment, or a receipt, sales receipt, rent receipt, cash receipt, or donation receipt to confirm one. Then fill it in on the page. Click your business block to enter your name, address, email, and phone, and click the bill-to block to add your client or customer. Set the invoice or receipt number and the dates; on invoices, add a due date and spell out your payment terms (for example, "Net 30") in the notes so both sides agree on when payment is expected.

Add each product or service as a line item with a description, quantity, and rate โ€” each line's amount is quantity times rate, and the subtotal adds the lines up as you type. Use "+ Add line" for more rows and the ร— button to remove one. Depending on the template, you can enter a tax percentage, a discount, and a shipping charge; the total updates instantly, taking the subtotal, subtracting the discount, then adding tax and shipping. Pick your currency symbol โ€” dollar, euro, pound, or yen โ€” and every amount reformats to match.

A complete invoice includes a unique invoice number, the issue date and due date, your details and the client's, an itemized list of what's being billed, and clear payment terms. A receipt should show the date paid, what it was for, the amount, and the payment method โ€” the details that make it proof the transaction is done.

Is my data saved or sent anywhere? No. Everything you type stays in your browser and is never uploaded โ€” there's no account and no server storing your entries. Closing or refreshing the page clears it, so print or save a PDF before you leave.

How do I add sales tax? On templates with a tax line, type your local rate into the tax percent box. Tax is figured on the subtotal, and the total recalculates the moment you change the rate.

How do I save it as a PDF? Click "Print / Save as PDF," then choose "Save as PDF" as the destination in your browser's print dialog. The controls and navigation are stripped from the output, so only the finished document is saved.

Can I change the currency? Yes โ€” choose dollar, euro, pound, or yen from the currency menu and all amounts reformat instantly. The tool changes the symbol only; it doesn't convert between currencies.
